Grado
Laboratories was founded in the 50’s by Joseph Grado one of the founders, with a
handful of other of the original giants of the industry, of the high end as we
know it today, but before there was such a term in use.
Grado is famous for its remarkable headphone and phono cartridge designs and
hold over 48 patents. Being credited with the invention of the stereo moving
coil cartridge and probably being responsible for more innovations in phono
cartridge design than any other, Joseph Grado was inducted into the Audio Hall
Of Fame in 1982.
Grado’s time-honoured expertise, painstaking attention to design detail and
manufacture by hand aims at the achievement of its primary objectives of
unprecedented levels of pitch control, harmonic accuracy and bass quality.
The company is still family owned the present owner and CEO being John Grado,
Joseph’s nephew.
John has spearheaded the development of the Prestige and Reference series of
headphones and phono cartridges.
Today headphones constitute 80% of the company’s business although it is still
strong in its phono cartridge roots.
